Triennial Assessment

April 2024

The Central City School District is committed to providing a school environment that enhances learning and the development of lifelong wellness for all students. As a part of the USDA requirements we have reviewed the districts Wellness Policy (#5052) which includes goals for Student Nutrition, Physical Activity, and School-Based Activities.

Upon completion of the assessment we have identified areas of strength and opportunities for improvement within the district.

Areas of Strength

  1. Students are provided with opportunities to be active during the school day with scheduled recesses and participation in PE. PE is offered every period of the day.
  2. The district participates in the School Nutrition Program and follows their guidelines for the Breakfast/Lunch programs. Many healthy food options are offered to students at meal times with salad and vegetable bars available to them daily.
  3. Curriculum is being taught to students in all district schools that address wellness and nutrition.
  4. The district offers a number of wellness opportunities before and after school.
  5. A Majority of students are involved in extracurricular activities.
  6. Students consume large quantities of water as “cool” containers have become more widely adopted nation-wide.

Opportunities for Improvement

  1. Healthy habits/activities/intake are not necessarily practiced outside of the school building.
  2. Poor food choices are highly available, easier and cost efficient outside of the school buildings.

The Wellness Policy and Triennial Assessment were reviewed by the School Board on April 15, 2024 with no changes being made to the Wellness Policy.
